While the formal qualification provided a framework, my focus was always on ensuring the learning was practical, transformative, and directly applicable in the workplace. These experiences have given me valuable insight into diverse workplace industries, from manufacturing floors to financial services, and reinforced my ability to adapt learning to real-world contexts.

My name is Ranee Thomas, and I completed the National Certificate: Occupationally Directed Education Training and Development Practices (ODETDP) Level 5 in 2020. Annalize Oosthuizen was both the facilitator and assessor for the training.
When I initially enrolled in the programme, I was extremely stressed and unsure of myself. I feared I might not make it through, as I knew the course would be challenging. During the induction, Annalize took the time to clearly explain the structure, expectations, and outcomes of the qualification. Deep down, I knew I needed this qualification to grow professionally, but I was still overwhelmed by the amount of work ahead.
However, once the training officially began, my fears started to ease. While the workload was indeed significant and demanding, it was also engaging and informative. Annalize proved to be an outstanding facilitator and assessor. She explained all the content thoroughly, remained available after hours for additional support, and consistently motivated the class. Her calm, encouraging approach created a supportive learning environment, and she constantly reminded us that we could succeed β and we did.
With Annalize's guidance and support, I successfully completed the qualification. This achievement marked a major turning point in my career. It enabled me to secure a more senior position, where the requirements included being a registered Assessor, Moderator, Skills Development Facilitator (SDF), and having experience in quality assurance of learning materials and external verification processes.
Today, I am proud to serve as a Senior Officer: Project Coordinator in the Occupational Training Unit. I feel confident and competent in my role. I am now capable of leading teams, mentoring others, and ensuring the quality of learning processes and material. Obtaining this qualification and working under the guidance of a skilled facilitator and assessor like Annalize Oosthuizen was truly life-changing and instrumental in my professional development.

I'm Annalize Oosthuizen, founder of B-Competent Solutions. For over 25 years, I've worked at the intersection of education, facilitation, and people development β guiding individuals and organisations toward meaningful growth through bespoke training, coaching, and behavioural insight.
I started my career as a teacher. But it was when I entered the world of adult education and facilitation that something truly clicked. I discovered a calling: to help people connect, communicate, and grow in ways that are both deeply human and deeply practical.

Using BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) standards and proven mapping methodologies, I help organisations visualise how their business actually works β from start to finish.
